Once the grooves are cut, you peel the paper back from one section at a time, use that scrap as a template to cut your fabric, press the piece onto the exposed adhesive, and tuck the edges down into the grooves. Black on black sounds tricky, and it's actually the fun of this one: the bear is six or seven different black and charcoal prints, and the prints are what keep one section from melting into the next. Lay your swatches out first and put the busiest ones next to the plainest.
