Kinusaiga Party Pack Kits: 8" × 8"

Mushroom - 5 Pack

Five kits, one design, and the fiddly part already done.

A party pack is the workshop without us in it. Everyone gets the same 8" × 8" kit and works on the same picture at the same time, so nobody is stuck waiting on a step somebody else hasn't reached yet.

Kinusaiga is Japanese fabric art that looks like quilting with none of the sewing in it. You peel the paper back from one section at a time, use that scrap as a template to cut your fabric, press the piece onto the exposed adhesive, and tuck the edges down into the grooves. The picture fills in one shape at a time. Most people have the hang of it about ten minutes in.

What each of the kits holds
The foam board arrives grooved and cut for the design you chose, with the double-sided adhesive sheet already on it, so nobody in the room has to start at a craft knife. With it: fabric swatches for every section of the design and then some, a seam ripper for tucking, a natural wood shadowbox the finished piece pushes into, and a card with the steps on it.

You'll need scissors, ideally a pair per person. That's the one thing we didn't put in the boxes, since you probably already own them. A pen helps if someone would rather trace a template than cut around it.

Picking your design
Choose mushroom, sun, or pumpkin, and all boards come cut for it. The photos show what each one looks like finished, though the fabrics shift a little between batches depending on what we have.

Some pictures translate to fabric better than others. Bold shapes with clear edges work; fine detail and lettering mostly don't. We'll tell you honestly which one yours is before you commit to it, and if it won't work we'll say so.

Who these are for
Birthday parties, baby showers, a classroom, a scout troop, a team offsite, or a group of friends who wanted a reason to sit at the same table for an afternoon. Ten covers a table with a couple spare for whoever turns up unannounced.
